The Transportation Safety Board says a Cessna 172 carrying an instructor and student has crashed north of Duncan. Bill Yearwood with the TSB says it's believed the aircraft belongs to the Victoria Flying Club, and information suggests both are alive but there's no update on their current conditions.

Shocked Shocked Update:

Emergency crews in Duncan, B.C. were called to free a woman trapped in a small plane that crashed after hitting high-voltage lines shortly after 1 p.m. PT.

The crash briefly knocked out power for about 10,000 customers.

RCMP Cpl. Janelle Shoihet said police and fire crews are on scene but had to wait for BC Hydro to clear wires to reach the crash site safely.

"There was a female believed to be the pilot and then a male who was also on board, and then they for some reason crashed," Shoihet said.

The man was able to get out of the plane and was taken to hospital by ambulance. The woman was later freed and also taken to hospital.

Their condition is unknown.

The manager of the Victoria Flying Club, Gerry Mants, said the plane, a Cessna 172, took off from the flying club at the Victoria airport early this afternoon.
